ONL Bureau : The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, today addressed the National Students’ Convocation of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), celebrating the role of cost and management accountants in shaping India’s economic and environmental future.
Recognising the deep historical roots of the accounting profession, the President said, “Throughout our history, accountants have enjoyed high esteem because accountability and accounting go hand in hand.”
She praised the ICMAI—founded in 1944—as a critical pillar supporting India’s industrial and economic growth since Independence. The President noted that the Institute had long provided valuable insights to both policymakers and industries, helping shape cost-efficient and transparent economic frameworks.
Encouraging the newly minted graduates, she urged them to think beyond ledgers and balance sheets. “Your role extends beyond financial metrics—you are builders of Viksit Bharat by 2047,” she affirmed, underscoring the importance of ethics, innovation, and nation-first thinking in their careers.
The convocation also honoured academic achievers and reaffirmed ICMAI’s commitment to grooming professionals who are as socially conscious as they are financially adept.
