ONL Bureau : Ahead of the iconic Rath Yatra, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced the operation of 365 special trains to and from Puri during the festival period. This is a significant increase from the 315 services operated in 2024, reflecting growing footfall and the spiritual significance of the event.
These trains will operate from a wide network of destinations across Odisha, including Rourkela, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Berhampur, Barbil, Khurda Road, Rayagada, Boudh, Bhadrak, Daspalla, Jagadalpur, Angul, and Gunupur. Outside the state, special trains will also originate from Visakhapatnam and Palasa (Andhra Pradesh), Gondia (Chhattisgarh), and Santragachhi (West Bengal).
The services are strategically planned to cater to the peak days of the Car Festival, including Gundicha Yatra, Bahuda Yatra, Sandhya Darshan, and Sunavesa. Officials highlighted that routes connecting remote and interior regions have been given due emphasis to ensure inclusive access to the festivities.
“The enhanced train services aim to ensure smooth, safe, and comfortable travel for lakhs of devotees. We’ve put in place logistical preparedness to manage the surging pilgrim rush with greater efficiency,” stated a senior ECoR official.
Passengers are advised to keep track of schedules and seat availability via the official railway platforms and station announcements.
