Odisha will host National SC & ST Parliamentary Committee Conference

ONL Bureau : Odisha will host a landmark two-day national conference of the Parliamentary Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, beginning tomorrow, August 29.

This marks the first time since 1994 that the state will welcome such a high-level parliamentary gathering.

The conference, themed “The Role of Parliamentary Committees in Tribal Development,” will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the Lok Seva Bhawan Convention Hall. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Union Ministers, and other dignitaries are expected to attend the inaugural session.

A total of 30 committee members and over 240 delegates from across the country will participate in the deliberations, which will focus on constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Tribes and the developmental initiatives undertaken by various states.

Ahead of the event, the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly convened a preparatory meeting to finalize arrangements. The state government has also planned a cultural showcase featuring Odisha’s rich heritage of handicrafts, handlooms, and performing arts.

Delegates will be taken on guided visits to iconic heritage sites including the Sun Temple in Konark and the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, offering a glimpse into the state’s cultural grandeur.

The conference is expected to foster meaningful dialogue and policy insights aimed at strengthening tribal welfare and inclusive development across India.
